“Understanding HIV Infection in the Female Genital Tract”

Marta Rodriguez-Garcia, MD, PhD • Tufts University School of Medicine

Dr. Marta Rodriguez-Garcia is an Assistant Professor of Immunology at Tufts University School of Medicine. Her NIH-funded laboratory focuses on understanding mucosal acquisition of HIV in women and how innate immune protection changes as women age. Her studies integrate the many aspects that influence mucosal protection in the genital tract, including age, hormonal fluctuations, tissue environment and pathogen/microbiome exposure, which make the study of this mucosal surface unique and challenging. Dr. Rodriguez-Garcia will present current knowledge and new findings on how HIV infection is established in the female genital mucosa.
